"The Yankee Clipper" was Joe DiMaggio -- NOT Babe Ruth.THANK YOU BILL!!!
In the recent Ruth biography, "The Big Bam," author Leigh Montville reported that a statue of Blessed Martin de Porres, known as the Negro saint, stood on Babe's nightstand. That was enough for me.
Hey people, does it really matter? How hypocritical is that legal doctrine about one drop making you whole, or as a famous black poet stated "Black blood is like the tears of Jesus -- one drop makes you whole"? What about white blood? Why doesn't one drop of it make you whole? These thoughts were stimulated by reading the September 2008 first novel by J. Anderson Cross, "The Bambino Secret", an "historical fiction" that postulates Ruth's maternal great-grandmother was a black slave.

From a short Bio of St. Martin De Porres I found on the internet:"Saint Martin de Porres was born in 1579, in Lima Peru, the son of a black/mulatto freed slave and a Spanish nobleman. At first, because of the stigma of having dark skin in a culture dominated by Spanish aristocrats, Martin's father did not acknowledge Martin and his sister, and deserted Martin's mother leaving her to fend for herself and her children by bringing in laundry to her home in the slums of Lima."He then gets re-accepted by his Caucasian father and performs miracles. Remind you of any orphans we know? 714 miracles, maybe?
You know I have never seen this argument til now.Pretty interesting stuff here. You made your points and the seem to be pretty valid!
He wasn't black.. Only way a black man can be as good as a white man is roids aka Barry bonds
Babe Ruth fooled white folk's in those day's,he looks like my cousin. You article shows you are just another sell out uncle thomsina trying to pacify your white readers, thinking your twisted opinion will increase white readership.Any sane person can look a Ruth and see The African Blood in his face and stature, and swagger. The orphange he stayed in while he was a child in St Lous, had mostly African American and Bi racial children. The man was rumored to have babies from black woman in Harlem.
This lady has no idea what she is talking about when it comes to Babe Ruth and African Americans. Ruth did not hate blacks. According to former Negro League baseball player Buck O Neil, Ruth was friends with some of the Negro League baseball players like Satchel Paige. This woman knows nothing about the history of baseball.Who cares! I have never heard of Babe Ruth bragging about being white or black, he was and is an American hero. Ty Cobb? Not so much.
Babe Ruth was bi-racial, just like the writer of this piece. One drop of black blood does not make you black. The U.S. Government likes to put folks in categories. African-American? If you were born in Africa, then moved to America and a became a legal citizen, then you are an African-American. Otherwise, you are just a plain 'ole American. Sorry for the newsflash...SORRY JACK, NOT ACCORDING TO SOCIETY............Hi Bebe:
The name is still Peggy, not Jack. By the way, isn't it great living in a country where we can disagree, without being confrontational?
Take care!Hi Jack:
It gives me great pleasure to inform you that, I am 100% African-American, not biracial. My complexion is light brown, not white, nor is it beige. No offense to anyone of biracial heritage, but I am Black, and proud of it.
Take Care!
